Winter Sports Equipment PEFCR

 

 

The Winter Sports Equipment Product Category Rules (WSE PCR) Initiative brings together leading winter sports equipment companies, including below listed companies. These companies have joined the Technical Secretariat (TS), with Glimpact/Yukan leading the technical work, 2B Policy coordinating the project as chair, and Salomon acting as co-chair.

 

The Technical Secretariat has joined forces to develop a standardised model for environmental performance assessment and to advance sustainable practices across the sector. By establishing Product Category Rules, the initiative aims to provide transparent and reliable guidelines for assessing the environmental footprint of winter sports equipment, as well as a harmonised methodology to support sustainability improvements throughout the product design phase and the supply chain.

Currently (Spring 2026), the PCR is considered a "Shadow PEFCR" (Product Environmental Footprint Category Rules) meaning that it has been developed in full alignment with the EU Product Environmental Footprint (PEF) method, but without the active supervision of the European Commission.
Until further notice, it is considered an industry-agreed method for product environmental footprinting. The TS will start the process to to have it recognised by the EU as an official method as soon as guidelines for this recognition are published by the European Commission,  currently expected in the second half of 2026.
